Creepers

CreepersI just finished reading this book and have to say that it is quite excellent. Although David Morrell has been writing for many years and has many well known books, this is the first one of his novels I’ve had the pleasure of reading. This book has made me want to explore his past offerings. Although I wouldn’t really call this book a horror book as the name could lead you to believe, it certainly has it’s “creepy” moments.

The book is about a group of urban explorers who illegally enter and “explore” abandoned and condemned buildings for various reasons. The term “Creepers” is a nickname to describe the practice. In this book, the building is the fictional Paragon Hotel in New Jersey. As the story unfolds, many things are uncovered such as the motivation of certain team members. The book is a real “page-turner”, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a movie based on this one.

David has a new book coming out in MArch 2007 titled Scavengers. It follows Amanda and Frank from Creepers. I have the ARC and so far it is very good. I should have a review up at my main site after the new year.
As for his other books I would highly recommend First Blood(Don’t think about the movie) and The Protector. But all of his stuff is excellent.

Thanks for the recommendations. I’ve heard that First Blood is different from the movie….better. I will check those out. I have never been a big reader until recently, but I’m discovering how much I love it.

Yes First Blood is far different from the movie. Morrell does an excellent job in juxtaposing Rambo and the Sheriff and how each reacts based on his background. Rambo and the Sheriff come different generations. So the conflict has roots in that generation gap. That was not well played in the movie. And the ending is different.

I read this book a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it! I was surprised to learn he is Canadian. I’m from Canada.
